Mumbai, April 8
Reliance Industries Vice-Chairman Anil Ambani today met Finance Minister P. Chidambaram at a hotel in Mumbai just a day after he accused a senior RIL Director of conspiring to tap his home and office telephones.
Both Mr Ambani and Mr Chidambaram emerged from the 15-minute long meeting and left for their respective destinations without speaking to the media.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued here, Reliance Infocomm, denied that its senior officials engineered the tapping of telephones belonging to Mr Anil Ambani."The allegation is baseless and malicious and the company strongly refutes the same," the statement said.
Interestingly, reports emanating from RIL had so far indicated that Reliance Infocomm would go to Mr Anil Ambani while elder brother Mukesh would take control of the flagship RIL. The younger Ambani's latest salvo yesterday is also seen as a setback by Reliance watchers who have been predicting a settlement between the two warring brothers.
Yesterday, Mr Anil Ambani wrote to the Home Ministry alleging that his telephones as well as those belonging to his personal staff were being tapped.
