Conclave to elect Pope from April 18

Vatican City, April 6
Roman Catholic cardinals seeking a successor to Pope John Paul II will start their conclave to elect the new pontiff on April 18, Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said today.

A total of 117 cardinals are eligible to take part in the conclave, which will continue until a successor is chosen. — Reuters
