Jawan kills girlfriend, attempts suicide Kurukshetra, March 14 The SHO of the city police station, Mr Ram Chand Rathi, told The Tribune that during preliminary investigations, the Army jawan was identified as Satinder of Gohana, Sonepat district. He had come to the town this morning to meet his girlfriend, who was a BA second-year student at a local private college, he said. The police official said the couple fixed an appointment at Hotel Pearl Park, where she turned up with her friend around 12 noon. While they were having some snacks, they had a quarrel over Satinder’s proposal for marriage. They had a heated exchange, which provoked Satinder. He took out an unlicensed .315 bore pistol from his pocket and fired at least four bullets at her. She allegedly died on the spot. Satinder also tried to end his life by firing on himself on the chest. The hotel management called the police and he was rushed to the Civil Hospital. The doctors attending on him at the hospital referred him to the PGI, Chandigarh. The post-mortem examination would be conducted tomorrow. The police registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act against Satinder. The police recovered the weapon used in the incident. Police sources revealed the friend of the deceased was taken into police custody to record her statement as she was an eyewitness to the incident. The SHO denied detaining her in police custody. |
