Soren asked to prove majority by March 15

Ranchi, March 5
Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi today asked Chief Minister Shibu Soren to prove majority on the floor of the Assembly in a six-day session that would start on March 10.

After completion of formalities as regard the newly constituted Assembly, the Chief Minister would have to prove majority by March 15, according to Raj Bhavan sources.

The Governor advanced the date from March 21 following his meeting with President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in New Delhi yesterday.

The President had summoned the Governor for discussions on the prevailing political situation in the state following a complaint lodged by the BJP-led NDA. The NDA had paraded 41 MLAs supporting the coalition in the 81-member Assembly on Thursday.

The NDA had dubbed the Governor’s decision of inviting the UPA to form the government as ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘murder of democracy’.

Immediately after his arrival here from New Delhi, the Governor held a high-level meeting that was attended by Mr Soren, the Chief Secretary and the Home Secretary.

NDA Legislature Party Leader Arjun Munda also invited to the meeting, did not attend it protesting against the alleged biased attitude adopted by the Governor.

Coming out from the Raj Bhavan, the Chief Minister told newspersons that he would hold an emergency Cabinet meeting and only after that he would comment.

Meanwhile, Governor Syed Sibtey Razi was greeted with black flags by BJP workers when he arrived at the Birsa Munda airport here.

The BJP workers also raised slogans like ‘Governor go back’, ‘Sibtey Razi, Sonia Gandhi murdabad’.

BJP’s Ranchi district committee general secretary Satyendra Kumar Mullik said the demonstration was led by its president Sanjay Seth.

JMM workers staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan demanding the release of MLA Enos Ekka from the clutches of the NDA.

Ekka became controversial after his support to the NDA although his name figured in the UPA list that was submitted to the Governor staking claim to form the government. — UNI
