The Congress will tomorrow announce the name of new Haryana Chief Minister.
A meeting of the Congress Legislature Party(CLP) has been called tomorrow at 4 pm. The meeting, which will be held in the Parliament annexe here, is expected to formally elect the new leader.
Congress general secretary in charge of Haryana Janardan Dwivedi said the decision on the name of the new Chief Minister would be made tomorrow.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi today continued consultations with party leaders on the basis of the report of the three-member observer team which had gone to meet the MLAs in Chandigarh. Apart from Mr Dwivedi, Power Minister P.M. Sayeed and Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot were sent as central observers to elicit views of the party MLAs on the issue of leadership.
The CLP in Haryana had authorised Ms Gandhi to take a decision on the issue of the Chief Minister.
Ms Gandhi has involved more AICC leaders in the process of consultations. Sources said AICC treasurer Motilal Vora, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Congress president’s political secretary Ahmed Patel had been asked to interact with senior Haryana Congress leaders.
PCC chief Bhajan Lal, Congress MP Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former PCC chief Birender Singh, PCC working president Randeep Singh Surjewala and Union Minister Selja are among the main contenders for the post.
Meanwhile, Mr Bhajan Lal has also convened a meeting of his supporting MLAs at his house in Delhi at 10 am tomorrow.
