Plane engine catches fire

Jammu, February 19
As many as 120 Leh bound passengers of Allianz airlines had a miraculous escape here today as the engine of the aircraft caught fire during takeoff.

According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (Airport), the pilot of the aircraft noticed smoke emanating from the right engine while he was accelerating for takeoff on the runway.

Fire fighters of the Air Force and police reached the spot immediately and the passengers were asked to rush out of the aircraft.

The aircraft has been parked here and the engineers were expected to reach from Delhi to rectify the fault. A special flight would be operated for Leh tomorrow. — TNS
