Chandigarh, February 11
The President of the Tribune Trust, Justice R.S. Pathak, exhorted the Tribune employees to gear themselves up to face the challenges of the future.

Paying floral tributes to Dyal Singh Majithia, on the 124th foundation day of The Tribune at a largely-attended public meeting here this afternoon, Justice Pathak said a laidback attitude would not help. He said changes were inevitable and the employees could not rely on past practices alone. They had to adapt to the changing needs of the industry.

The Editor-in-Chief, Mr H.K. Dua, said Mr Majithia had a great vision about the paper and it was the duty of everyone associated with the great institution to put in their best to ensure that the newspaper remained eclectic and a pioneer in journalism.

He hoped that with the collective efforts of the staff, The Tribune and its sister publications would reach dizzy heights both in prestige and circulation. He sought the cooperation of one and all in this endeavour while mentioning that there would be more occasions this year to celebrate the 125 years of the newspaper.

In his address, the General Manager, Mr R.N. Gupta, mentioned the stresses and strains of the newspaper industry. The newspaper could not adopt some of the practices of its contemporaries but that did not mean that it should shy away from competition.

Mr Jagtar Singh Sidhu, President of the Tribune Employees Union, said the credibility of the Tribune was its greatest strength. He mentioned the overwhelming response of the readers to the newspaper’s appeal to donate to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to help the victims of tsunami.

The Additional General Manager, Mr O.P. Arora, welcomed the guests. Earlier, floral tributes were paid to Sardar Majithia by Justice Pathak, Mr R.S. Talwar, Mr R.P. Bambah and Justice S.S. Sodhi, all Trustees, Mr Dua Mr Gupta, and Mr Sidhu.
