The police is still clueless about the sensational kidnapping of a plus two student of the local DAV Public School and son of a rice-sheller owner, Guddu, who was kidnapped by three unidentified youths, one of them in police uniform, at gun point here from the Majitha road last evening.

This has caused panic among the business community who has stopped all the movements of their wards after the sunset.

Though the family is tight-lipped about the reasons behind the kidnapping, yet the police have been working on various theories. A red alert has also been sounded in Haryana, New Delhi and adjoining states. The police took some suspected youths into custody who were let off after preliminary interrogation. The police do not rule out the possibility of ransom, or personal enmity behind the kidnapping.

Mr Parmjit Singh Gill, DIG, border area said that police teams had been dispatched to various areas and record pertaining to criminals was being scrutinised. He said police nakas had been put up on all the exit roads and nothing was being left to chance.

All India Anti-Terrorist Front chief M.S.Bitta came from Delhi to offer his support to the family. He said the kidnapping had brought back the ugly memories of the militancy days of 1980s. Among those who visited the house of Mr K.S.Dimpy , father of Guddu, included Mr O.P.Sony, Dr Raj Kumar, Mr Harjinder Singh Thekedar and Mr Jugal Kishor - all MLAs and Mr Sunil Dutti,Mayor Municipal Corporation .

Ms V.Puri, Principal of DAV Public School where Guddu was student, said that the school students and teachers were in a state of shock. She said Guddu was a docile and obedient and never picked up quarrel with any fellow student.

According to family sources, the boy, Paramvir Singh aka Guddu, had left the driver of the Honda Accord car after finishing his tuition nearby and drove the car himself towards the residence. The kidnappers, perhaps, watching the movements of the boy signalled him to stop the car, only 500 meters away from the Police Chowki.

The kidnappers could not reverse the new model of the Honda Car as they were not aware about its know how.One of them came out of the car and pushed the parked scooters to make way for the car to proceed towards the Majitha -Verka bypass. Some of his friends, who were eyewitness to the drama, chased the vehicle to some distance.

The police monitoring the movement of the boy, carrying two cell phones , found that the signals were emanating from GT Road, near Rayya. The family heard the kidnapper speaking in Hindi as Guddu was protesting against the kidnapping.

Thereafter, the police failed to record any signal but later at mid-night the Airtel tower reported the cell phone signals coming from within the city.

The possibility of inter-state gang of professional criminals in the kidnapping could not be ruled out.
