52 die in train-tractor collision

Nagpur, February 3
At least 52 persons, mostly women and children returning from a wedding, were today killed and 10 injured when a Nagpur-bound train collided with a tractor-trailer at an unmanned crossing at Kanhan, about 30 kms from here, the police said.

The mishap took place at around 4:30 pm at Borda unmanned level crossing in Nagpur division of South East Central Railway, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Nagpur Rural) Rajendra Gautam told PTI.

The deceased included 30 women and 17 children, including 11 girls, Mr Gautam said adding the tractor-trailer was carrying 65 to 70 persons. The family of Gangadhar Sarode had come for a wedding at Kanhan and was returning to Kachurwahi village when the mishap occurred. — PTI
