Dairying plays a dynamic role in India's agro-based economy and our dairy industry is one of the fastest expanding in the country owing to the rising consumption of milk and milk products like butter, cream, curd, cheese, ice cream, sweets, etc not only in the larger cities but also in small towns and the rural areas.

The Indian retail segment is one of the largest in the world; a joint report by McKinsey and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has pegged the Indian retail market at $180 billion. And though it has a long way to go as far as organised retailing is concerned, it is growing at a steady rate of 11-12 per cent and accounts for around 10 per cent of the country's GDP.
