New Delhi, January 29
NDA Convener George Fernandes today opposed the Congress’ demand for President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh and accused the Congress of adopting “double standards”.
“I do not favour imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh as the situation there does not warrant such a measure,” he told mediapersons here.
Accusing the Congress of adopting “double standards” on the issue, Mr Fernandes said the law and order situation in Bihar was far worse in Bihar where kidnapping had become the order of the day and the ruling party at the Centre was turning a blind eye as it was equally responsible, being part of the RJD-led government in the state. Mr Fernandes said his party would welcome if the Assembly poll in Bihar were held under President’s rule.
On the possibility of a post-poll alliance of JD(U)-BJP combine with Ram Bilas Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party, Mr Fernandes said: “If we can provide a better government, why not.”
“The NDA is confident of winning on its won strength.
However, the NDA would not be averse to joining hands with Mr Paswan if the situation demanded,” he added.
