New Delhi, January 25
The UPA government today issued orders formally appointing Mr M.K. Narayanan, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister, as National Security Adviser in place of the late J.N. Dixit.
Mr Narayanan had so far been officiating as the NSA since Dixit’s death earlier this month.
The 70-year-old Narayanan, a 1958-batch IPS officer, has twice served as the Director of Intelligence Bureau, first from 1989-90 and then from 1991 till his retirement next year.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had made him Special Adviser for Internal Security in May soon after his government assumed office in May last.
