Amritsar, January 19
The Amritsar police is contemplating strict action against Sub-Inspector who allegedly gave electric shocks to a student of class IV and forced his father to sign a cheque for Rs 2.35 lakh.

The boy was picked up on January 16 and subjected to third-degree torture. He was released after the cheque was handed over to Sub-Inspector, Salwinder Singh.

The parents of the victim today met Mr R.P.S. Brar along with Ms Laxmi Kanta Chawla, senior vice-president of the state BJP, and Mr Buta Ram, a CPI leader. Mr Brar directed DSP Ashwani Kapoor to submit his report within a day.

As per reports, 10-year-old Sumit had picked the pocket of an influential person at birthday party in a local marriage palace. The crime was detected when a video film of the party was played. The parents of Sumit, said instead of torturing their son, a case should have been registered as per the law. The CIA staff was meant for hardcore criminals and not children, said Ms Chawla.

It is learnt that the persons whose pocket was picked by Sumit was known to Mr Salwinder Singh, who assured him of recovery of money.

Sumit’s father, a bank employee, alleged that the Sub-Inspector had picked up their son without any FIR on January 16 and was released late in the evening.

When contacted, Mr Salwinder Singh denied the charge that he had given electric shocks to the child. He claimed that it was a “concocted” story . However, parents of the victim showed wounds inflicted on the body of Sumit.

It is learnt that Sumit had gone to the birthday party with some boys who had put up a stall at the birthday party. It was at the behest of these boys that Sumit stole envelopes with money of some guests there. Sumit said the boys had given him some money for eatables. He had not taken the entire amount to his house.
