Kolkata, January 11
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today claimed that the UPA’s common minimum programme (CMP) had been Congress’ main agenda, which the CPM and other Left parties were supporting from outside.
The Prime Minister stated this while addressing a convention of party workers at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium here today. This is his first visit to the city after taking over the office.
The PM said they were determined to fulfil the party’s agenda by implementing the UPA’s common minimum programme despite opposition.
He advised party leaders and workers not to be misled by misinformation and misgivings about the party’s stand in the UPA.
He made it clear that the party was not yielding to any outside political pressure in running the government. He asked the party workers to stay away from the malicious campaign being run by the BJP against the Congress.
In the evening, the PM inaugurated the diamond jubilee celebration of Calcutta Press Club. He also visited the Netaji Bhavan.
