Chandigarh, December 25
The D.C.-cum-District Election Officer, Mr R.S. Doon, has come down heavily on political parties, accused of violating the model code of conduct in the ongoing Assembly elections.
According to information received here, Mr Doon issued show-cause notices to the ruling Indian National Lok Dal and the BSP asking them to explain within 24 hours why action should not be taken against them under the election laws for holding political meetings in the PWD Rest House and the Canal Rest House today.
He also issued similar notices to the Executive Engineers of the PWD and the Irrigation Department. A watchman of the Canal Rest House was placed under suspension for allowing the political parties to use the rest house.
It is learnt that the district administration had videographed the two meetings.
Mr Doon has also issued notices to six parties for pasting posters at public buildings.
The parties to which these notices have been issued include the Congress and the Ekta Shakti.
Among those who attended the INLD meeting held in the PWD Rest House was Mr Ramesh Rana, party MLA from Gharaunda.
