Shaheedi Samagam concludes

Ganga Sagar and weapons exhibited at Katalgarh Sahib and Sikhs beating drums on elephants and Nihangs riding horses were the main attraction on the concluding day of Shaheedi Samagam.

Thousands of devotees continued to visit gurdwara to have a glimpse of Ganga Sagar. Not only Ganga Sagar but also Rai Aziz Ullah Khan, an MP from Pakistan, who brought it here became revered for devotees. They sought his blessing and asked for his autographs. “ I belong to the family of rulers of Raikot to whom Guru Gobind Gobind Singh had gifted Ganga Sagar 300 years ago. I am happy with the welcome and respect shown to me by the devotees. Ganga Sagar will also be exhibited during Shaheedi Samagam at Fathegarh Sahib and at Raikot in Ludhiana” he said while talking to The Tribune. Besides it, the weapons used by Guru Gobind Singh also attracted the devotees.

Major Singh, a Nihang, was seen wearing 35 Kg turban. This 450 meter-long turban was another centre of attraction during the procession. He took four hours to dress up and has been wearing this turban in every religious function held in Punjab since 1997.

Nihangs procession led by Surjit Singh of the Buddha Dal began marching from Ranjitgarh Sahib at about 3.50 pm. The Nihangs belonging to different organisations in Punjab passed through the various parts of the town and reached the sports stadium to exhibit horses ridding skills and gatka.

Thousands of devotees participated in another procession which began from Katalsahib Gurdwara at 12.30 pm. The devotees chanting slogans “ Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal” passed through all historical gurdwara’s, including Ghari Sahib, Damdama Sahib, Ranjitgarh Sahib and Tari Sahib. The procession which was led “Panj Payras reached Katalgarh Sahib at 2.30 pm. People were standing on both sides of the roads to welcome the devotees.
