Tribune News Service

Panchkula, December 18
The Director General of Police, Haryana, Mr M.S. Malik, today said that the state government had placed a demand for 100 companies of paramilitary forces and 20,000 Home Guard volunteers from the Ministry of Home Affairs for ensuring law and order and free and fair polls in the state.

Mr Malik was addressing media persons after inaugurating the newly constructed police lines in Sector 26 here. He said the Haryana Police was fully prepared to ensure that the run-up to the Vidhan Sabha elections, and the polling on February 3, was conducted in a fair manner.

He said the Haryana Police Academy and the Police Lines in various police districts in the state will now conduct intensive training programmes for the police personnel. “There is no shortage of arms and ammunition with the state police. But we are sure that the polling will be peaceful,” he said.

When asked about the sensitive polling booths and sensitive area in the state and the police deployment there, the DGP said that the voters list had not been published, and booths had not been identified by the state Election Commission. “Once the voters rolls are prepared by January 3, we will be able to identify sensitive areas and decide on police deployment so that the law and order is maintained,” he added.
