Chandigarh, December 13
There was an air of jubilation at Soyemajra village (Ropar) as a regular teacher finally joined at Government Elementary School in the village today.

After The Tribune exposure of the teacher-less school, the Punjab Education Department today ensured that Ms Jaspal Kaur, who had proceeded on medical leave, joined duty.

Ms Jaswinder Kaur had been transferred from the school in the middle of the session against the rules of the department.

Mr Bir Devinder Singh, MLA (Kharar), who also visited the school, told the Tribune that he had taken a very serious view of the negligence on part of the Education Department and had directed the SDM, Kharar, to probe the manner in which Ms Jaswinder Kaur had been transferred from the school.

The MLA is taking up the issue in the Vidhan Sabha.

He pointed out that in the office file of the teacher, the Block Education Officer ( Elementary) had in a footnote mentioned that the dealing assistant and the superintendent from the office of the District Education Office, Ropar, repeatedly telephoned her to relieve Ms Jaswinder Kaur. Another teacher, Paramjit from Shampur was supposed to relieve her, he said.

The members of the panchayat who vent their ire against the officials of the Education Department told the MLA that they had been repeatedly requesting the DEO to depute a regular teacher. Even the MLA had twice forwarded the request of the villagers to the DEO.
