Amritsar, December 11
Ms Bishan Kaur (95), mother of BSP leader Kanshi Ram, along with her son Dalbara Singh and members of the Kanshi Ram Bachao Sangarsh Committee, began a rath yatra to get him “released from illegal custody” after performing ardas at Akal Takht here this morning.
Mr Santokh Singh Salana, officiating convener of the committee, said the yatra, aiming to create awareness among masses about the alleged illegal confinement of Mr Kanshi Ram by the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Ms Mayawati, would reach Anandpur Sahib in the evening.
He said it would proceed to Goindwal Sahib the next day, to Damdama Sahib on December 13, to Chamkaur Sahib the day after and to Chandigarh, where it would culminates on December 15.
Mr Dalbara Singh, brother of Mr Kanshi Ram, said Ms Mayawati was not releasing Kanshi Ram fearing that she would lose his political lineage and leadership of the party.
Launching a scathing attack against Ms Mayawati, he alleged that she had transferred the ownership of Mr Kanshi Ram’s bungalow at Humayun Road in New Delhi in her name. Mr Dalbara Singh alleged that she had amassed huge money from party funds and added that his family did not want any money or property of Mr Kanshi Ram, but his custody to get him treated properly.
Ms Bishan Kaur said it was strange that last year Ms Mayawati had announced that Mr Kanshi Ram had suffered from a brain stroke and this year he was operated upon for bypass surgery for heart ailment.
The convener of the committee, Mr Shingara Ram Sahungra, former MLA from Garhshankar, said the yatra would help in garnering support for the cause.
