Blast near Farooq’s public meeting

Srinagar, December 5
A powerful blast rocked the Hazratbal area, where National Conference leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was addressing a meeting at the grave of his father Sheikh Abdullah this afternoon.

A loud explosion was heard while Dr Abdullah was addressing the meeting, called in connection with the 100th birth anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah.

Security forces rushed towards the area where the sound of the blast was heard.

Though the exact cause of the blast was not immediately known, it is believed that a grenade might have exploded in mid-air at a distance from where the meeting was being held.

No one was hurt and the meeting continued without any disturbance. Several senior National Conference leaders attended the meeting.

Security around the venue of the meeting was further tightened to foil any possible militant attack.
