Buta Singh is Bihar Governor
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 2
After years of hibernation and a brief stint in the erstwhile BJP-led NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Union Minister Buta Singh has been appointed the Governor of Bihar.

Former Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Pratibha Patil will be the new constitutional head of Rajasthan following the resignation of BJP’s Madan Lal Khurana who has returned to active politics in the national Capital.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique issued here this evening said the appointment of Buta Singh and Pratibha Patil as Governors will take effect from the date they assume charge of their respective office.

Mr Buta Singh’s gubernatorial assignment was not entirely unexpected as he succeeds the controversial Justice Rama Jois who has also made his exit in the wake of the Congress-led UPA government asking certain Governors appointed by the previous NDA regime to put in their papers.

The UPA government has undertaken a major exercise in appointing new Governors. At least three more Governors will have to be appointed as the term of Viren Shah in West Bengal, M.M. Rajendran in Orissa and Mohammad Fazal in Maharashtra is ending in December.
