Girls more fit than boys in cops’ test Chandigarh, October 22 Though it is not yet decided how many women will be taken in the police, yet it is estimated that there may not be more than five seats for them in the constabulary. More than 2618 from a total of 3000 female candidate got through in one of the toughest and largest recruitment tests in the history of the Chandigarh Police with 1.34 lakh candidates vying for 230 posts of constable. On the contrary, only 2031 from a total of one lakh male candidates cleared the physical test. A good number of candidates did not turn up for the physical test when it was known that it was difficult to clear the chest measurement test for male candidates. The provisional figures are yet to be confirmed when the Chandigarh Police completes it’s month-and-a-half-long recruitment campaign on October 24. Tomorrow will be the last day for the scheduled Caste candidates. The ex-servicemen category candidates will take the test on October 24. Sources said they generally saw a batch of 80 women clearing the race test. In the worst case, 75 of 80 women participants in a batch cleared the test. A female candidate has to run 400 metres in two minutes. The minimum height required is 5.2 feet. Their chest measurement is not required. The chest measurement of male candidates has been the biggest hurdle. Most of the candidates were rejected at this stage. A male candidate had to run 1600 metres in 6 minutes. During the last recruitment, a male candidate had to clear the distance in 15 seconds less time. |
