Six militants among 8 killed
Srinagar, October 10

Six militants, including two intruders, were among eight persons killed and a security personnel injured in Jammu and Kashmir where ultras kidnapped a civilian since last evening, a police spokesman said today. The two infiltrators were killed in Rajouri district last night, the spokesman said.

Geelani, Shabir remain under house arrest

The Chairman of the hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Democratic Freedom Party chief, Shabir Ahmad Shah continued to remain under house arrest for the third consecutive day today, official sources said.

Six militants among 8 killed

Srinagar, October 10
Six militants, including two intruders, were among eight persons killed and a security personnel injured in Jammu and Kashmir where ultras kidnapped a civilian since last evening, a police spokesman said today. The two infiltrators were killed in Rajouri district last night, the spokesman said.

He said a group of militants trying to sneak into the Indian territory via Naini gap Kalal border in Rajouri was challenged by security forces and in the ensuing gunfight two infiltrators were killed.

Two AK rifles were seized from their possession, he added.

In another incident, militants attacked a joint search party of the police and security forces at Dhagar Sarola under Bani police station in Kathua district last evening. Security forces retaliated killing one ultra and recovered an Insaus rifle with two magazines and 14 rounds from him.

The spokesman said a militant was killed and a security personnel was injured in an encounter at Kote Kalimasta in Udhampur district yesterday.

Two militants, one them identified as Hafiz Fayaz Ahmed, alias Usama of Pakistan, were killed in a gunbattle with security forces at Rangwar-Chowkibal in Kupwara district yesterday. Two AK rifles, four magazines and two hand grenades were seized from them.

The spokesman said militants shot dead one Sarajdin at Phalgam-Sikdi under Chatroo the police station in Doda district last night.

Militants also brutally killed 52-year-old Ghulam Mohiuddin Naik by slitting his throat at Dedwan-Paristan at Gulwari top sector of Banihal in Doda district yesterday, he said.

The spokesman said militants abducted one Asif Ahmed from his house at Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir last night.

Security forces seized a pistol, its two magazines, 13 rounds, seven AK magazines and 328 rounds from a militant hideout in forest area of Shumnag in Kupwara district last evening, he added. — PTI

Geelani, Shabir remain under house arrest

Srinagar, October 10
The Chairman of the hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Democratic Freedom Party chief, Shabir Ahmad Shah continued to remain under house arrest for the third consecutive day today, official sources said.

Geelani and Shah were placed under house arrest on Friday when they were planning to hold anti-election rallies in the Batmaloo and Pahalgam assembly constituencies where byelections would be held on October 13, the sources said.

Contingents of the police deployed outside the residences of the two leaders at Hyderpora and Sanatnagar, respectively, on Friday, continued to be there, they said.

The two leaders were barred from moving out of their houses in order to maintain law and order in the valley, the sources said. — PTI
