Pappu Yadav sent to Beur Jail Patna, October 5 Pappu Yadav went to the court and surrendered before the designated judge who forwarded him to Beur Jail in accordance with the apex court directive. The court directed the jail authorities to ensure the medical check-up of Yadav and produce him before it on November 2. Earlier, talking to reporters, Yadav expressed unflinching faith in judiciary and said he was confident of being acquitted in the case. He exuded confidence that he would emerge victorious in the October 13 byelections even if he was in jail. Yadav had on Saturday gone from pillar to post in Madhepura to surrender himself following the Supreme Court order but neither the police nor the SDJM accepted his surrender. The Supreme Court had on October 1 cancelled the bail of Pappu Yadav granted by the Patna High Court and asked him to surrender to the appropriate authorities. A Bench comprising Mr Justice N. Santosh Hedge and Mr Justice S.B. Sinha, taking note of the submissions by the counsel appearing for Sarkar’s younger brother Kalyan, who filed the petition, had ordered Pappu to surrender before the authorities forthwith and directed them to lodge him in jail. The CBI supported the petitioner. The apex court had on two occasions cancelled the bail granted to Pappu by the high court in the same case and had refused bail to him on four occasions after Kalyan had alleged that he was threatened by the witnesses who turned hostile during the trial proceedings. —
