Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, October 5
The police today recovered 12 suspected anti-aircraft missiles from a roadside thicket under the Arnia area in
Bulandshahr. Bulandshahr SSP R.P. Singh said the suspected missiles were recovered around 6.30 this morning on the Aligarh-Bulandshahr highway.
The missiles were first spotted by a man near the site of a road accident. The police later visited the spot on being informed.
Of the 12 missiles, four were empty and their length ranged from 1 foot to 2.5 ft, he added.
Meanwhile, an Army team has been called to examine the missiles.
“We are probing the matter elaborately and Army officials in Meerut have also been informed. Only after they come, things will become clear,” he said.
The SSP said it was likely that the missiles had been unloaded from a truck.
“There was a huge traffic jam on the road last night following an accident. It seems that this morning, the driver and others in the truck became aware of police presence to clear the jam.
May be they feared a surprise checking and decided to unload the missiles and abandon these by the roadside,” he said.
He said it was too early to draw conclusions about the likely origin and destination of the consignment and the police was keeping “all probabilities in mind.”
The police, last evening, found two live rockets at the Massoorie Industrial Area near Ghaziabad —
