Maya promises quota in all sectors Garhshankar September 26 All political parties, including the Congress and the BJP, were dominating by the Manuwadi forces who, instead of sorting out any problem of the Dalits, had been exploiting them for their gains and ruled the nation since the Independence of the country. She was addressing an election rally of BSP nominee Rachpal Singh Raju at Grain Market here today, who is contesting byelection from the Garhshanker segment in Hoshiarpur district. Referring to the introduction of reservation in the private sector, in judiciary and ministries, etc. for the Dalits, she said none of the political party had taken any step in this regard during past. If the BSP would come to power in the Centre and states, it would certainly introduce reservation in all sectors where it was not in force as yet. She appealed voters to vote in favour of Mr Rachpal Singh in Garhshankar byelection and Mr Tarsem Singh in Kapurthala on 13 October. She pointed out that the poor performance of the BSP in last state assembly elections of Punjab had disgusted Mr Kanshi Ram, founder of the party. He was keen to visit Punjab with her, but due to his ill health he could not accompany her. She said a majority of the Dalits were still living in slums of the rural and urban areas and were leading
a These parties always made false promises for their development during elections. But did not care to fulfil them. She claimed that after coming to power in Uttar Pradesh, she had covered more than 25,000 villages having 50 per cent or above population of the Dalits under the Ambedkar Adarsh Dehat Yojna. The vacant land of the state government had been given to the Dalits for agriculture. More than 10 lakh Dalits of these villages were benefited. She had also provided employment to more than 50,000 Dalits during her tenure as Chief Minister of UP. She said the Dalits, Backward Classes and minorities were 85 per cent of the total population of the country. She said if they became united under the banner of the BSP, they could easily grab the power from the Manuwadi forces not only in the Centre but also in all states. She said the BSP was the only party that could solve all problems of the Dalits, the Backward Classes and minorities. Ms Mayawati said the BSP was not a communal party that was playing politics on the caste basis. It was only against the thinkers of the Manuwadi ideology. It would welcome all those persons of upper classes, who had given up the Manuwadi ideology and considered all human beings on par, irrespective of their caste and religion. Referring to criminalisation in politics, she said during her regime in UP, she had put all criminal elements behind the bars. She quoted the instance of Raja Bhaia, a well-known political leader of UP. She claimed that she had also dealt criminal elements with strong hands and during her regime the law and order situation in UP was quite normal and under control. She also pointed out the critical financial position of Punjab and said this was all due to poor governance of the Congress government of the state. |
