New Delhi, September 18
Haryana today urged the Centre to set up a separate High Court for the state with territorial jurisdiction over the Union Territory of Chandigarh, in the existing premises of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and also take steps to fill up vacancies of the judges.
Haryana Finance Minister Sampat Singh, who on behalf of Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala addressed the conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts on ‘Envisioning justice in the 21st Century’ here today said 40 per cent of building space besides ministerial staff and judges appointed against the quota of Haryana should be provided to the state in the process of establishing a separate High Court for Haryana.
Mr Sampat Singh said it was a matter of concern that even after 37 years of its creation, Haryana did not have a separate High Court. The Minister said the interests of
of Haryana had suffered due to the common high court and the “state had never been able to get its proportionate representation on the Bench even on the prescribed ratio. He said at present there were only eight Judges from Haryana against the allotted quota of 21.
