The Left parties are unhappy with the performance of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.
Addressing a press conference here today CPI Secretary D. Raja said: “We are not happy. We are not satisfied with the performance of the UPA government.”
“It is time for the UPA government to perform. There are priorities mentioned in the common minimum programme (CMP) and we want the UPA government to implement the CMP in letter and in spirit. One should remember that it is a multi-party coalition government taking Left support from outside,” he said.
He came down heavily on the UPA government for allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in insurance, telecom and civil aviation, not consulting the Left parties before formulating the national trade policy, appointing representatives of international bodies to sub-committees of the Planning Commission and lowering the interest rates on the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).
