3 chargesheeted in Dubey murder case

Patna, September 3
The CBI today filed a chargesheet against three accused in the murder of National Highway Authority of India project manager Satyendra Dubey, who had alleged corruption in the Golden Quadrilateral Highway Project.

The chargesheet was filed against Mantu Kumar, Udai Kumar and Pinku Ravidas in the court of the Special Judicial Magistrate Sanjay Singh who issued processes and ordered production of the accused next week. The three, who had been arrested by the CBI in early June, were already in judicial custody in connection with the case.

Discounting any conspiracy theory behind the murder of Dubey, the chargesheet filed by the special CBI team from New Delhi confirmed that it was purely a case of murder and robbery. The special CBI team headed by Additional SP Vijay Kumar was probing the case.

The chargesheet was submitted under Sections 302 (murder), 394 (robbery) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention for committing crime) of the Indian Penal Code and section 27 of the Arms Act.

Dubey’s killing, which took place after he had alleged corruption in the NHAI project, in a letter to the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s office, caused public outrage.

The engineer, was shot dead while returning to his residence in Gaya on November 27, after alighting from a train, was involved in the Golden Quadrilateral project.

His belongings, including a suitcase containing papers and other articles, were all taken away. RJD president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had demanded a CBI probe into the incident stating that the IIT graduate was killed as his letter was ‘leaked’ by the PMO.

While pleading that his identity be kept secret, Dubey had requested the PMO to hold an inquiry into the ‘irregularities’ being committed in the execution of the project by ‘the politician-contractor-official nexus’.— PTI
