President for overhaul of education system
New Delhi, August 14

President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam today strongly advocated a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s education system and an increase in the expenditure on education to 6-7 per cent of the GDP to turn India into a “prosperous, happy and strong nation.”

Dhananjoy hanged to death
Kolkata, August 14
Dhananjoy Chatterjee, the rapist and killer of 14-year-old schoolgirl Hetal Parekh, was hanged to death today at Alipore Central Jail sharp at 4-30 in the morning, ending a prolonged chapter of legal battle over his crime and punishment, his life and death.
