POTA to be scrapped

The UPA government today decided to repeal the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) which its alliance partners had opposed tooth and nail at the time of its passage by the previous NDA government in a joint sitting of Parliament.

The UPA government today announced across the board hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for grains, oilseeds, coarse cereals and pulses. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCE), Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said.

KGL makes contact with captors

The Kuwaiti company KGL, employers of the three Indian hostages in Iraq, today established indirect contact with the kidnappers and also roped in some new mediators, a senior official of the Ministry of External Affairs told The Tribune.
