Hostages may be freed by Sunday
New Delhi, August 6
The three Indians held hostage in Iraq since July 21 may be released either tomorrow night or by Sunday morning. Information to this effect has been given to the Government of India today by Kuwait and Gulf Link Transport Company (KGL), the employers of the seven hostages in Iraq, top sources told The Tribune.

Flood-hit protesters lathi-charged
Ambala, August 6
Irate residents of flood-affected colonies on the outskirts of Ambala City blocked the GT Road and the police had to resort to a mild lathicharge to clear the road.

200 acres flooded as canal breaches in Abohar
Abohar, August 6
Over 200 acres of agriculture land was flooded following a major breach in the Malookpura distributory here early this morning. Farmers said the authorities had increased discharge in the sub-canal to save other areas from flood.

Siachen talks end on positive note

The sensitive Defence Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan on Siachen, held after a gap of six years, concluded here on a positive note with the two sides agreeing to continue the ceasefire in force for the past 250 days.

11 labourers buried alive
Jammu August 6
Eleven labourers were killed and three injured in a landslide on the route to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Udhampur district of Jammu early this morning. The landslide occurred at about 2.30 a.m. when it was raining heavily in the area. The labourers got buried as the hut in which they were sleeping collapsed due to the landslide.
