Panjwar’s aide arrested
Tribune News Service

Amritsar, June 29
In a major breakthrough, the Tarn Taran police today arrested Harchand Singh, a resident of village Narli, police station Khalra. He is said to be a close associate of Parmjit Singh Panjwar, whose name figured in the list of India’s 20 most wanted. Harchand was arrested from his native village on a tip-off.

Mr Parmjit Singh Gill, DIG (Border), said that the alleged accused confirmed that Panjwar had lately started smuggling narcotics and fake currency through land route. He said the latest development was worse than terrorism as it aimed at destabilizing the Indian economy. He said the police had confirmed reports that Panjwar had sent fake currency so far. The smugglers who were dealing in counterfeit currency, busted by the border police, had established this fact beyond doubts that Harchand Singh was regularly in touch with Panjwar through mobile. The sim cards of his cell phone had also confirmed his links with Panjwar.

Mr Gill said the police had launched a massive manhunt to nab other smugglers of the border belt, including Suba Singh, a resident of Rajatal (Amritsar).

The DIG said that during interrogation of Harchand Singh, it was concluded that Panjwar was still operating from Pakistan. He said earlier, the Tarn Taran police had seized an AK 47 from Harchand Singh.

The police has also launched a massive manhunt to arrest Hardip Singh Jalandhari, a notorious dealer in fake currency.
