New Delhi, June 18
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognisance of a news report on the killing of Ishrat Jahan, a Mumbai college student, and three young men in Gujarat for allegedly plotting the assassination of Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi.
The commission has directed the Director-General of Police, Gujarat, and the SSP, Ahmedabad, to take appropriate action with regard to investigation of the case as per guidelines laid down by the commission in its letters dated March 29, 1997, and December 2, 2003, to all Chief Ministers.
The commission said that the report `Innocent blood on Gujarat cops hands? Thane police gives Ishrat Clean Chit’ said that Ishrat’s background came clean on Thursday when the Thane police checked her record.
The report further said that Ahmedabad police has acquired a reputation of shooting first and asking questions later.
It has failed to come up with a plausible explanation on how the four persons were planning to kill Mr Modi.
