BJP threatens stir against fuel price hike
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 15
The BJP today criticised the UPA government for hiking the petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices and threatened to launch an agitation on the issue.

Describing the hike as “anti-people” and “anti-farmer”, BJP spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said: “This is the first major decision of the UPA government, which claims itself to be the champion of the common man.”

He said the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG was “shamefully” announced by the government on the day it had decided the dates for presenting the rail and general Budget in Parliament.

This would put a “heavy burden” on the common man, especially farmers who were among the biggest consumers of diesel for irrigation and ploughing of fields, he said.

“Our party will strongly oppose this anti-people decision of the government and take to the streets against it,” Naqvi said.

The Rs 20 hike in LPG price would hit the middle class hard, the BJP leader said.

Reconsider LPG price hike: CPI
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 15
The Communist Party of India (CPI) said today that the government would have to reconsider its decision on the increase in the price of LPG. CPI National Secretary D. Raja told TNS late this evening that the increase in prices of diesel and petroleum would have a cascading effect. "The government should take effective measures to control this.

They have promised to adjust certain other duties. That is welcome," he said.
