Haryana leaders to meet on SYL
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 14
A meeting of the representatives of political parties, kisan unions, sarv khap panchayats and student organisations has been convened at Rohtak on June 19 to decide on steps regarding the implementation of the SC verdict on the SYL canal.

Talking to mediapersons here, Arya Samaj leader Swami Agnivesh and former Union Minister Sher Singh said today that the Sutlej water was going to Pakistan but southern districts of Haryana were being deprived of their share as the SYL canal had not been completed.

They urged the Centre to identify and declare the agency which would be given the task of completing the canal.

They said had the work on the SYL canal been completed in December, 1983, as scheduled, the Central Government would have saved at least Rs 500 crore.

Giving an account of contentions of Haryana and Punjab on the construction of the SYL canal, they said Haryana was being deprived of its due. They called for the early completion of the canal.

The leaders said the meeting at Balidan Bhavan, Rohtak, would discuss on ways to get the SC verdict implemented. They said leaders of all political parties in the state had been invited for the meeting.
