Govt may review stand on troops for Iraq
Natwar Singh meets Powell

Foreign Minister Natwar Singh shakes hands with US Secretary of State Colin Powell at the State Department in WashingtonExternal Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh said on Thursday that while New Delhi had not been asked to send troops to Iraq, such a request would “have to be discussed by the government and the Cabinet Committee on Security.”

CPM seeks clarification on Natwar’s remarks

The CPM today asked the Manmohan Singh government to clarify Foreign Minister Natwar Singh’s ambiguous remarks about the change in situation in Iraq.

Immediately after deciding to have a shadow Cabinet, the BJP today directed former External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha to take on External Affairs Minister of the United Progressive Alliance government on the issue of sending Indian troops to Iraq.

Electronic gadgets, fake currency and sharp-edged instruments recovered from Amritsar Central Jail during a surprise check conducted by the District Magistrate on Friday. In a surprise raid, the District Magistrate and district police chief today claimed to have foiled an attempt of another jailbreak in the high-security Amritsar Central Jail where many foreigners, including Pakistani nationals, are lodged.
