New Delhi, May 30
The CBI arrested a senior official of Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) along with his conduit last night on charges of offering bribe to an agency official to wind up a disproportionate assets case against him.
Director (Finance) of Bangalore-based HAL A K Zutshi and his conduit Manikantam were arrested in Chennai while allegedly offering bribe of Rs 50,000 to a CBI official for weakening the disproportionate assets case against him, CBI sources said.
The agency's Bangalore-based anti-corruption branch had registered a DA case against Zutshi sometime back for allegedly investing crores of rupees in share transactions.
Zutshi accompanied by Manikantam, a software engineer, went to Chennai and offered bribe to a CBI official following which the agency laid a trap and arrested the two from a hotel. A floppy, containing doctored statement of account, which was to be given to the CBI official, was also seized.
The entire proceedings were secretly videographed in front independent witnesses, the sources said.
