Chandigarh, May 14
Tough times are ahead for Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. The poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections has made his position vulnerable. Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has already raised the banner of revolt against him. Sources say she will visit Delhi to present her side of the story to the party high command regarding the Lok Sabha elections. The SAD-BJP combine secured lead over the Congress candidates in as many as 86 Assembly segments in the Lok Sabha elections.

The next two months will be most happening as far as political activities are concerned in the state. The SGPC elections are due on July 11. Though Capt Amarinder Singh has nothing to do with these elections because his party never participates in these elections directly but the Chief Minister will be very much interested in the SGPC elections indirectly. President Parkash Singh Badal will lead his party in these elections.

The Chief Minister had stated before the Lok Sabha elections that he would drop those ministers whose performance in their respective segments will not be satisfactory in the elections. There are ministers who failed to ensure the victory of their party’s candidates in their Assembly segments. The performance of ministers hailing from Ludhiana, Jalandhar and certain other towns is good. Mr Mohinder Singh Kaypee is perhaps the only Minister in whose segment the Congress candidate won the Lok Sabha elections with a bigger margin than the Assembly elections.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the SAD-BJP candidates were ahead of the Congress or Left candidates supported by it in over 15 Assembly segments represented by Congress ministers such as Mrs Rajinder Kaur Bhattal (Lehra), Mr Mohinder Kumar Rinwa (Fazilka), Mr Ravinder Singh (Ferozepore Cantt), Mr Tej Parkash Singh (Payal), Prof Darbari Lal (Amritsar Central), Mr Gurchet Singh Bhullar (Valtoha), Mr Khushhal Bahl (Gurdaspur), Mr Joginder Singh Mann (Phagwara), Mr Ramesh Dutt Sharma (Anandpur Sahib), Mr Ashwani Sekhri (Batala), Mr Tirpat Rajinder Singh Bajwa (Qadian), Mr Rameh Chander Dogra (Dasuya), Mr Satokh Singh Choudhary (Phillaur), Mr Kanwaljit Singh Lali (Adampur), Mr Gurbinder Singh Atwal (Nur Mahal), Mr Sardul Singh (Jandiala). How many of these will be dropped is the big question.
