New Delhi, April 28
The Union Home Ministry today sent its report to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam about Haryana Governor Babu Parmanand’s reported speech seeking votes for Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The report, which had been sent to the President’s secretariat, is understood to be containing the summary of Babu’s speech and his explanation, official sources said here.
The Home Ministry’s report comes in the wake of the President asking in writing the Ministry to submit their finding on the speech in which Babu Parmanand reportedly praised the Prime Minister and lashed out at the Om Prakash Chautala-led INLD Government in Haryana and the Congress.
Subsequently, the Home Ministry had sought details from the Secretary to the Haryana Governor, sources said.
The President has been at regular intervals asserted that Governors should rise above partisan politics and at no time be seen to be favouring any political party.
The controversy surfaced after media reports that the Haryana Governor had told a gathering of Dalits in Rewari on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 that Mr Vajpayee brought peace and he should be supported.
Angered by the reported remarks of the Haryana Governor, Mr Chautala had demanded his immediate removal and asserted that he would write to the President in this regard.
