Chandigarh, April 26
Following a directive from the Union Home Ministry, the Haryana Governor's secretariat has sent a report explaining the "factual position" on the speech given by the Governor at Rewari on the occasion of Ambedkar's birth anniversary on April 14.

Official sources said President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's secretariat had asked the Union Home Ministry to inquire into media reports "attributing political motives" to Haryana Governor Babu Parmananda's speech.

The Home Ministry asked the Governor's secretariat here to file a reply to it by Monday, explaining the Governor's position. The reply was sent this morning and the Home Ministry had acknowledged its receipt, the sources said. They added that in the letter, it was clarified that the Governor did not mean to ask the people to cast vote in favour of the BJP in his speech.

Earlier, both the Congress and the INLD of Haryana had protested against the Governor's alleged appeal to the people to vote for the BJP while speaking on the occasion of Ambedkar's birthday.
