Anti-poll marchers tear-gassed

Srinagar, April 23
The police used teargas shells and batons to disperse an anti-election march led by a former Hurriyat Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, here today, official sources said.

Shortly after Friday prayers at the Jama Masjid, the Mirwaiz took out the march which was intercepted by the police on the main road.

The police interception triggered clashes as the participants were adamant on continuing the march, the sources said adding the police used batons and later fired dozens of teargas shells to disperse them.

No one was injured in the police action, the sources said. — PTI
