Jalandhar, April 23
Taking serious note of violence which sparked of near Lamba Pind chowk following protests by a group of residents yesterday, the district police chief, Mr Gupreet Singh Bhullar, today shifted the area SHO, Mr Ravinder Sharma, for his “inability” to handle the situation and control the violent mob.
Mr Ashok Gupta, District Magistrate, has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident, wherein truck driver Jasbir Singh was beaten up and he died later at the local Civil Hospital.
The SDM-I will conduct the inquiry into the incident.
The police has arrested Raj Kumar Raju of Lamba Pind for alleged beating up Jasbir Singh along with Sony, Gora, Gogla, Kala and Chabba, all residents of Lamba Pind chowk area.” We have sent police parties to arrest the remaining five, who have fled their homes,” said Mr Bhullar.
He stated that the preliminary inquiry revealed that SHO Ravinder Sharma instead of handling the situation in a proper manner fled the scene. “We have suspended him, he said, while refuting allegations that Jasbir was tortured by the PCR team.
Meanwhile, the area remained peaceful today.
