New Delhi, April 23
The Delhi Police Crime Branch today claimed to have arrested a board employee posted in the office of the Controller of Examinations for his involvement in the CBSE pre-medical question paper leak case.
With the arrest of Hemant Sharma (24), a resident of Gandhi Nagar and computer operator in the office of Examination Controller Pavnesh Kumar, the number of persons held in the case has gone up to seven. The police also arrested N.K. Thaplu, manager of Delhi Sachdeva New PT College, for buying question papers from Sharma. The police claimed to have seized Rs 3 lakh in cash and a computer.
The investigators are now looking for owner of the college Sudhir Sachdeva, who allegedly had paid Rs 3.25 lakh to Sharma at a meeting arranged by Thaplu.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) B.K. Gupta said Sharma had been arrested on information provided by the main accused, who were arrested recently.
Sharma had allegedly taken copies of the question papers from the computer and given these to the accused. Sharma, who has been employed with the CBSE for the past one year, had access to the question papers. So far he has revealed at least four contacts whom he supplied these question papers and a hunt is on to trace them, according to Mr Gupta. His arrest came two days after the alleged kingpins of the racket, Ranjeet Verma, fourth-year MBBS student of Nagpur Medical College, and his brother, Satinder, were taken in custody by the police on April 19.
