Hyderabad, April 19
Senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and party candidate from Srikakulam K. Yerran Naidu escaped with minor injuries in a landmine blast triggered by PWG Naxalites near Singupuram junction in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, late last night.

His two gunmen, personal assistant and driver sustained serious injuries in the explosion, the police said.

Former TDP parliamentary party leader Naidu, who fell unconscious after the blast, was immediately taken to the Srikakulam district headquarters hospital, 14 km from the blast site.

He was discharged this morning after undergoing tests and was in deep shock, reports reaching here said.

SRIKAKULAM: The police today sounded a red alert throughout the district on Monday in the wake of the attempt on the life of the TDP leader and claimed that it had found leads.

Police sources said the special investigation team, which is investigating into the blast, found wire drawn from the spot of the explosion running into a house in an oil palm garden about 200 metres away.

In the house, the team also found a photo flash and some clothes allegedly used by the militants to trigger the blast. — UNI, PTI
