New Delhi, April 17
Nearly 2.37 lakh students from across the country today took the rescheduled pre-medical test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
While the students and their parents were “apprehensive”, the Board officials maintained that there was “no reason for worry”. The Controller, Examinations, CBSE, Mr Pavnesh Kumar, said the test was conducted in a “peaceful atmosphere” in 424 centres spread over 31 cities. In Delhi alone, more than 40,000 students took the exam in 75 centres.
“We had taken all necessary precautions not to repeat what happened last week,” said Mr Kumar, referring to the tight security arrangements for the question papers reset by the CBSE. “The Board made swift arrangements for conducting the test immediately after the leak of question papers.
It was all peaceful today,” he added.
The second part of the examination, which is the final phase for selecting students for admission to various medical colleges, will be held as per schedule on May 16. “There will be no change in the date of the final examination,” said Mr Kumar.
Even as the CBSE asserted that all was well, the parents waiting outside the examination centres were “apprehensive”. “We are praying that the examination should pass off peacefully. It is all very demoralising for the children”.
It is for the first time that the CBSE is conducting a two-tier entrance test for admission to medical colleges.
While the pre-medical test comprises objective questions, the mains will have subjective questions. The final results will be announced in June.
