EC orders Haryana to shift DGP
Chandigarh, April 6
M.S. Malik The ruling Indian National Lok Dal suffered a setback today when the Election Commission of India ordered the shifting of the Director-General of Police, Mr M.S. Malik, to a post not connected with the election work in any manner. Mr Malik’s wife, Krishna, is contesting the prestigious Sonepat Lok Sabha seat on the INLD ticket.

The Election Commission found itself in a delicate situation today with the Congress and other Opposition parties demanding a ban on opinion polls with the BJP willing to go along with the majority opinion.

SC upholds life term for 18 militants
Says terrorism is peacetime war crime
New Delhi, April 6
The Supreme Court has held that acts of terrorism are peacetime equivalents to war crimes and has upheld life sentence to 18 extremists under TADA for killing a police official, injuring several others and looting arms from a police station in Jahanabad district of Bihar 16 years ago.

Team arrives to probe ‘fake admission’ of patients to hospital
Amritsar, April 6
A high-level three-members inquiry committee comprising Dr J.S. Dalal, Dr Kiranjit Kaur, principals of Medical College Faridkot and Medical College Patiala, respectively, and Deputy Controller Finance and Accounts, Mr Om Parkash Chaudhary, today reached here to conduct a probe into the charges of admission of patients to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (attached to Medical College, Amritsar) on the basis of “fake files”.
