Rahul Gandhi to visit Amethi today New Delhi, March 28 He would be meeting his party leaders, office-bearers and other activists who would be campaigning for him during the elections, Congress spokesman Kapil Sibal told reporters. Rahul Gandhi would be in Amethi again on April 5 and 6 to file his nomination papers, besides interacting with mediapersons, he said. Rahul’s two-day tour will begin with a visit to Chilauli village. He said the Gandhi scion would flag off a Congress yatra from Chilauli after which he would pass through Jagdishpur, Jamo, Gauriganj, reach Munshiganj where he would meet local Congressmen and various delegations. Meanwhile, in a bid to facilitate an electoral pact between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress in Uttar Pradesh certain Muslim leaders called on Congress President Sonia Gandhi here today. The Muslim leaders, who represented various organisations, including the Jamait-e-Islami, said they had fruitful talks with Mrs Gandhi. They did not rule out the possibility of rethinking by the Samajwadi Party on some parliamentary seats in the state on which the Party had already announced its candidates in the light of their talks with the Congress President. The Muslim leaders said they were carrying back with them a message for Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. “We met the Congress President to tell her about the necessity of unity among secular parties in the coming poll”, Maulana Ilyas, convener of the Personal Law Board, told reporters after the meeting. Party spokesman Kapil Sibal said, “We are even today open for unity among secular forces in UP and we will wait as long as we can wait on this matter”. |
