Telgi scam quantum put at Rs 33,000 crore
Elections force govt to put a lid on the secret figure
New Delhi March 22
The Intelligence Bureau’s final estimation of the Telgi scam at Rs 33,000 crore has got the government worried since it dents its ‘India Shining’ campaign. Authoritative sources told The Tribune that the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Mr K.P. Singh, had twice briefed the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs that after extensive investigation of the case, this was the exact quantum of the scam the agency had arrived at.

Hamas leader killed in  Israeli raid

Spiritual leader of the Palestinian group Hamas Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was today killed in an Israeli air strike as he was leaving a mosque in Gaza city, setting the West Asian political cauldron on fire.

Though residents here pay toll for travelling on four-wheelers even within the limits of the district, those connected to politicians enjoy undue favour by getting letters issued in this regard. The Tribune has managed to obtain a photostat copy of such a letter issued by Mr Umesh Kumar, personal assistant to the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, to Kashmir Singh of Nirmal Vihar, Karnal, so that the bearer did not have to pay the toll.
