10 escape from jail in Gujarat Ahmedabad,
March 4 Some of the 32 prisoners, lodged in the
sub-jail at Borsad taluka in Anand district, complained of illness late last
night and lured a guard towards their cell on this pretext, District
Superintendent of Police B.S. Jebalia said here. The prisoners snatched the
guard’s rifle and hit him, and attacked another guard before escaping. “Six
police teams, including that of the local crime branch, have been sent to
various parts of the district to apprehend the prisoners, who were undergoing
various terms for crimes like robberies and burglaries,” the DSP
said. Meanwhile, a departmental inquiry has been ordered to ascertain whether
there was any connivance between the prisoners and the guards on duty as
preliminary investigation revealed that the Head Constable on duty was not at
the post when the incident occurred, the DSP added. VARANASI: Inmates of the
district jail here went on the rampage on Thursday, indulging in heavy brickbatting, prompting the jail authorities to fire into the air to bring the
situation under control, a senior police official said. The inmates, protesting
the murder of Samajwadi Party corporator Banshi Yadav on the prison premises on
Wednesday and shifting of some prisoners suspectedly involved in the incident to
Central Jail, tried to breach a barrack and indulged in heavy brickbatting,

to fire into the air and sound the emergency bell to alert the staff to control
the situation, he said. Additional police force has been deployed on the jail
